DVS 62 foot Aluminium Cruising Catamaran - Design #067

This magnificent cat is our first real foray into the realm of cruising catamaran design and what a statement she has made. We worked closely with the owner’s to accommodate all of their requirements for ocean cruising into what you see here. We believe the end result finely balances the needs for speed under sail, seaworthiness, construction practicality, spacious accommodation all in a reasonably cost efficient package. The high quality aluminium structure of Elcie was build by Q-West Boatbuilders in Whanganui New Zealand and they did a perfect job. We also have recently developed a smaller sister the DVS 52ft Catamaran. We know that ketch rigs on catamarans are fairly uncommon, but from experience we are convinced that it's highly useful and practical as a safe and rigid cruiser setup with still good performance. However, don't hesitate to contact us when you would be interested in this boat with a sloop rig.

Richard Johnson and Jessica Rice Johnson own and operate Elcie. Since 2010 they have sailed thousands of miles including three Pacific crossings with many island stops along the way. For more information and lots of photos see: www.elcieexpeditions.com. Elcie recently completed an 18 month/32000 NM circumnavigation. She is a fast, comfortable and capable passagemaker. With berths for 10, she has safely carried a family along with many expense-sharing crew and volunteers across all oceans. She is well-suited to expedition and term charters, light scientific research, eco adventures, film support and group/family cruising. Elcie is licensed to carry 6 passengers in the USA and is limited only by her liferaft capacity of 12 in International waters.

Elcie is offered for sale by the original owners who worked closely with yacht designer, David De Villiers, and builder Q-West Boatbuilders in New Zealand to create a versatile and now proven voyager. Both professional USCG Licensed Captains, the owners have a combined 75 years of sailing experience.

Elcie is outfitted to be easy to operate and self-sufficient with long range cruising in mind. Included in the equipment list are 700 Watt Solar Panels, a Spectra Cape Horn Watermaker, Jefa Transmission Steering system and Autopilot, Vesper AIS, Satcom and much more. (A complete equipment list is available at www.elcieexpeditions.com).

Elcies's strength and stability make her a solid feel at sea while her shallow draft affords exploration well off the beaten track. The ketch rig offers two advantages - a variety of sail combinations for changing weather conditions and a low center of effort without loss of sail area. Maximum ventilation and insulation make her comfortable in the tropics as well as in higher latitudes.
