SAILTRAINING & SAILING CARGO VESSEL 'CEIBA'

This is a project where traditional craftsmanship meets modern technology. This sailing cargo ship will be using the wind to go everywhere it needs to go. There will be a high tech fully electric propulsion system on board. During sailing by the wind, the batteries are being charged by specially designed controlable pitch propellers that are driven by the speed of the boat. The generated power stored in the batteries will be used when there is no (favourable) wind and for manoeuvring in harbours.

De Villiers & Van Schaik Marine Design collaborate with Sigma Plus Associates in Switzerland to develop the electic regenerative system based on our experiences with Schooner Opal from North Sailing in Iceland.

The mission of SAILCARGO INC:
