Our latest sailing catamaran design is surely going to turn heads. Commissioned in late 2016, this design is still on the drawing board, so to speak. The client brief was initially intended to result in a larger version of our successful and proven 62’ Cat design (#067) with a ketch rig and forward working cockpit. However, the concept design has evolved to the single mast rig version shown here.
Throughout the concept design process we have adhered to the underlying theme which is to produce a light and nimble performance vessel. Construction will be in high strength Alustar alloy so as to optimize the sailing efficiency by keeping the vessel as light as possible. Features common on some other large cruising cats such as Sundeck Cockpits, voluminous interior accommodations and almost full length spanning bridgedecks have been avoided to further the performance aims for this unique vessel.
Properly sailed in the right conditions this vessel should be quite capable of averaging 300 to 400 nautical miles per day. We are extremely excited with the possibilities and direction that this new catamaran design will take for our new collaboration…..de Villiers and van Schaik Marine Design.
