De Villiers & Van Schaik - Naval Architecture & Marine Design

ABOUT De Villiers & Van Schaik - DVS Marine Design

De Villiers and Van Schaik Marine Design is the result of a collaboration between David de Villiers (de Villiers Design Ltd, Bay of Islands, New Zealand) and Pepijn van Schaik (Manta Marine Design, Netherlands). We are now both operating from the Bay of Islands location in New Zealand as Pepijn and family emigrated midway through 2016.

DdV Since 2000 de Villiers Design Ltd has steadily accumulated a varied portfolio of designs including both mono and multihull sailing vessels, marine farming vessels, motor yachts and RHIB’s intended for patrol, rescue, police and military roles etc. David has also accumulated in excess of 50 000 nautical miles of ocean and coastal sailing and racing and is now concentrating on stand up paddle-boarding and outrigger canoe paddling which are essentially part of a “Polynesian” way of life. David has also designed and self-built a 36’ Steel Multichine Cruising Sailboat which has since cruised extensively including rounding the Horn.

PVS Pepijn van Schaik is a graduate naval architect with many interesting and varied consulting projects completed since starting Manta Marine Design in 2006. Pepijn brings some highly developed technical and practical skills to the partnership which also include having designed and self-built the Bornrif 33’ Steel Cutter. Pepijn has a special relationship with “Tall Ships”, having sailed around the Atlantic and to Antarctica on the bark “Europa” as well as having completed re-fit and re-rigging projects on several well-known Tall Ships.

Overall David and Pepijn share a passion for sailing and a healthy respect for the ocean. We have wide marine design experience coupled with a practical knowledge of what works and what does not. Our default design philosophy would be “functional and efficient”. We pride ourselves in being able to offer practical and efficient solutions based on our wide experience. We will not waste your money on wacky ideas just to satisfy our own curiosity and egos.

We firmly believe that by working together we will be able to offer a more professional and more effective marine design service, not only here in NZ but also worldwide.
